Lately...

Emily enjoys having her picture taken,

helping Mommy clip coupons,

scaling stone cliffs,

and, jumping off of mountains.

She does NOT like bibs anymore!
They are so last season.

Back from Sabbatical

Hello Everyone! Sorry for the lapse in posts for the past couple of weeks. I actually have several stockpiled that I've been wanting to get up but have either not taken the time or just got distracted by life!
So, without further adieu...

Fever Update

We did end up going to the doctor yesterday afternoon. Emily's fever broke a couple of hours before our appointment, but I'm still glad we went. It was reassuring to find out that she didn't have an ear infection or worse. The pediatrician thought it may have been a slight viral upper respiratory infection. So, we were instructed to keep tabs on her temp to make sure the fever didn't return, give her plenty of fluids, and keep holding her. :)
Well...this morning when I went to get Emily out of her crib, she had a little rash on her forehead. As the morning wore on, the rash spread to her chest and back. And it got much worse on her face. Her poor face is very blotchy now! The rash doesn't seem to be bothering her, though, and she has been in a much better mood today. She has also eaten and napped better. I called the doctor's office, and they said as long as the fever was gone and she was eating/drinking well, to just keep an eye on the rash. Since we're going in for our well-baby visit tomorrow, that sounded like a good plan to me!
Kyle and I have read up on Emily's symptoms, as well as talked with several people, and it sounds like she has Roseola. The pediatrician could not confirm that without seeing her, but the symptoms match exactly...starting with irritability, then loss of appetite, followed by fever, and finally a rash. So, we will hopefully see the rash begin to disappear tomorrow or the next day.
Thanks to everyone who voiced words of concern for our Sweetie!

Belated 9 Months!

Emily turned 9 months old on the 24th. I had planned to make a post that evening, but for the past several days she has been having a tough time with what we are pretty sure is teething. Poor Sweetie has been really cranky - obviously not feeling well and napping very poorly as a result. She developed a fever yesterday, which got up to 102. She still had it today, so my plan is to call the pediatrician if it continues to hang on until tomorrow. Thankfully, she hasn't developed any other symptoms. We're praying that this really is only teething! Emily's 9-month well baby visit is on Friday, so we'll see if the doctor thinks it's necessary for us to come in before then.
This picture was taken last night. The look on her face says it all!

We're still waiting for the next "big" milestone to come. Emily isn't crawling yet. She actually seems more interested in walking and always wants us to hold her hands so she can stand up. Needless to say, that cuts down on tummy time. We're trying not to be too concerned about it. We know she'll crawl and/or walk when she is ready. In the meantime, we're just trying to be as facilitative as we can! I have to admit though...she gets her way a lot when it comes down to tummy time vs. walking time.

Emily is really enjoying her meals now. She has gotten very good at eating finger foods like cereal puffs, steamed veggies, peeled grapes, egg yolk, and bits of bread. She prefers to feed herself, but some foods just aren't conducive to that yet. She tries her best though! She likes to grab the spoon and hold onto it after I've put it into her mouth. As you can see, it usually looks like we've had a food fight by the time we're done.

One other fun notable...Emily communicated her first sign yesterday. We have been teaching her a little bit of sign language (all done, more, please) to aid in communication while her speech develops. There have been times that I thought she might have been giving me a sign, but this time it was for sure! She put her fingers together to say she wanted "more" water. It was so exciting!!
I know I've said this in probably every monthly birthday update, but being a parent is so amazing. It is the most wonderful gift to see this life growing and developing each day. Kyle and I are incredibly blessed.

Bluebonnets

As you may have noticed from our new family picture on the right, we went to a gorgeous field of bluebonnets the other day for a photo op. Our good friend, Lindsay, took these. She calls herself a "wanna be photographer." We couldn't disagree more!

P.S. If you enlarge the bottom left photo, you can see the newest editions to Emily's pearly whites!!

Growing Pains

Emily has outgrown some toys that have been her favorites for a long time. We've been reluctant to pack them away, but I think we're finally going to have to concede. What do y'all think??

March Madness!!!

Ok, it's April, but the Lady Sooners are in the Final Four, so we had to post a blog about it!

Emily (or is that Kyle?) is totally pumped. Check out the shoes!!
Kyle is convinced that Emily is going to be a basketball player, considering how long and lean she is. So he was putting her through some drills the other day, just to make sure she's ahead of the curve.
Here she is "dribbling"...pretty sure she's got that down!

And here she is posing for her team photo. Check out the "game face"!

BOOMER SOONER
!!! Go Lady Sooners!
